Universities in the national capital, including Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Delhi University (DU), are planning to hold weekend classes and shorten their winter breaks due to delays in admissions stemming from uncertainties around the declaration of the CUET UG results.

CUET UG Re-Test and Result Delays The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the CUET UG exam, announced a re-test for over 1,000 candidates on July 19 due to complaints about issues such as the distribution of incorrect question papers. Despite this, the NTA has not clarified when the CUET UG results will be announced. Initially scheduled for release on June 30, the results have been delayed by over two weeks, and the final answer key for the test has not been notified yet.

Impact on JNU A senior official from JNU indicated that the delay in results will disrupt the university’s plans to release a unified academic calendar for all student batches. To compensate for lost time, JNU may resort to holding extra classes on Saturdays and potentially shorten its winter break. The official stated, “Instead of five days a week, we may have to teach six days a week and utilize Saturdays to cover up the syllabus. We will also consider shortening the winter break if need be.”

Ambedkar University’s Contingency Plans Ambedkar University is also preparing to hold extra classes in the evenings and on weekends, as well as reduce the number of holidays if necessary to make up for the delay. Vice Chancellor Anu Singh Lather remarked, “There would be a delay of about two weeks or so due to the re-test. I don’t think that is much time and can easily be compensated with some extra classes.”

Delhi University’s Adjustments At Delhi University, officials noted that the delay would cause the academic calendar for first-year students to extend beyond the originally scheduled end date. However, the schedule for other students will remain unchanged, with their classes beginning on August 1. DU’s registrar, Vikas Gupta, confirmed that the winter break for second-year students has already been shortened to four days, though the reason for this was not specified.

IP University’s Position An official from IP University stated that the delay would not significantly impact their admission process, as the university relies on CUET scores only in the final phase of admissions. Vice Chancellor Mahesh Verma explained, “We take admissions through national-level entrance tests for professional courses. We also have our own in-house entrance examination. After admissions through these mediums are completed, we fill the remaining seats through CUET.”

Jamia Millia Islamia There was no immediate response from Jamia Millia Islamia, which also uses CUET scores for some of its undergraduate admissions.

While DU and Ambedkar University rely entirely on CUET scores for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions, universities like JNU, Jamia, and IP University either accept CUET scores for selected courses or have their own entrance examination systems.
