Candidates who have registered for the counselling process can check their seat allocation results on the official website, wbcap.in. The second merit list for 2024 will be announced on July 23.

Key Steps for Admission Based on WBCAP 2024

1. Check the Merit List:

  • Visit the official WB CAP website.
  • Log in to the student dashboard.
  • Download the seat allocation result.

2. Seat Allocation:

  • Each applicant will be assigned a provisional seat based on their merit list ranking and college preferences as stated in their application form.
  • Carefully review the assigned college and course before accepting.

3. Acceptance Process:

  • Applicants satisfied with their assigned seat must complete the online acceptance process and pay the acceptance fee to confirm admission.
  • Students who prefer other choices can decline the seat and participate in the following rounds of the admission process.

Important Details

  • The centralised admissions process started on June 24 and includes 16 state universities and 461 government and government-aided colleges.
  • Students can apply for up to 25 undergraduate courses among 7,217 distinct courses.
  • Presidency University, Jadavpur University, and several autonomous and minority colleges are exempt from the system, as clarified by West Bengal’s Education Minister Bratya Basu.
  • The common admission process aims to eliminate the issue of students with outstanding grades being admitted to multiple universities simultaneously, which results in many seats being left vacant. With the centralised approach, one candidate will be offered only one seat at a time based on their merit, with the possibility of a better opportunity if a vacancy arises elsewhere.
