Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to aim for a significant increase in Uttar Pradesh’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education, targeting a rise from the current 25% to over 50% within the next 10 years. This directive was issued during a review meeting on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at his official residence.
Adityanath highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s leadership in adopting the NEP 2020, noting that the state’s efforts over the past three years have already led to an improvement in GER. He emphasized the importance of providing quality, universal, and employment-oriented education through modern technology in higher education institutions as envisioned by the NEP.
The Chief Minister pointed out the progress made in establishing universities across the state, including achieving the goal of having one divisional university and moving towards one district-one university. These developments are expected to contribute significantly to the targeted GER increase.
He also underscored the importance of encouraging youth towards entrepreneurship and ensuring that the curriculum reflects this focus. Additionally, Adityanath directed the establishment of a research center dedicated to the works of the renowned thinker Rahul Sankrityayan at Maharaja Suheldev State University in Azamgarh.
In a bid to support graduates and diploma holders, the Chief Minister noted the success of the ‘Mukhyamantri Shikshuta Protsaahan Yojana,’ which provides apprenticeship opportunities in industrial organizations. He urged officials to expand this program and ensure timely payment of stipends to apprentices.
Furthermore, Adityanath stressed the need for timely syllabus updates, the availability of engaging teaching materials for young children, and the implementation of the NCERT curriculum for Classes 1 and 2 across all schools. He also called for efforts to re-enroll dropout students and ensure that annual exams for the 2024-25 session are completed by May 15.
Highlighting the benefits of multilingual education, the Chief Minister encouraged officials to incorporate the teaching of multiple languages into the curriculum, noting that it enhances employability and personal development.
