BREMERTON, Wash. — A young boy between the ages of 5 and 6 was hospitalized after a school bus struck him in Bremerton on Friday afternoon. The accident occurred around 3:25 p.m. on Chico Way NW, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

The tragic incident unfolded when another child was pulling the boy in a cart. While maneuvering down a steep driveway, the child lost control of the cart, which rolled onto Chico Way and into the path of an oncoming school bus. The bus, which had no students on board at the time, was unable to avoid the collision and hit the cart carrying the young boy.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the boy was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma for treatment. Authorities have not yet released details on the extent of his injuries, but he was immediately hospitalized to receive medical care. As of Friday evening, no updates on his condition had been made public.

Fortunately, no other individuals were injured in the crash. The bus driver, who was not transporting any students at the time, was unharmed, and there were no reports of additional injuries related to the incident.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the accident is still under active investigation, and officials are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic event. While speed, alcohol, or drugs have not been mentioned as potential factors, the investigation will seek to clarify the events leading up to the accident.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of child safety near roads and driveways, particularly in areas with busy traffic.
